Ada Delores Peters

Ada Delores Peters went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2017 at Cox Medical Center in Springfield, MO at the age of 98 years and 3 months. She was born in rural Dallas County, MO on October 17, 1918 as the 11th child of a family of 12. Her parents were Robert Lee Hanks and Mary Elizabeth (Guthrie) Hanks. She was the last surviving child. Ada attended high school in Urbana but did not graduate as she quit school to nurse her father after he had strokes. Ada has a faith in God and was a member of the Church of Christ in Buffalo, MO and the Menlo Methodist Church in Arizona. Ada met and courted John Harrison Peters for three years before they were united in marriage on June 17, 1938. After John’s discharge from the Army they lived in Arizona where Ada worked in a school cafeteria and also cared for their son, John Curtis Peters. Ada was a very attentive mother, and cared for sons heart issues. In 1961, John and Ada returned to the Dallas County area where they owned and operated the Plad Store for 10 years before moving to Buffalo. After John H. lost his fight with cancer on January 17, 1983, Ada decided to sell her home and move to the Senior apartments, where she stayed for 26 years. Ada loved spending time with her son, grandson Curtis, and great-grandson Jonathon, and was truly saddened when “Johnnie” passed away in 2003 due to his failing heart. God as our guide gives one the ability to move forward and Ada did. In 2008, Ada moved to Pine Lodge and found a new family with Sue and Randy Gunter, and many friends with the other residents. She truly enjoyed her time at Pine Lodge. Ada was preceded in death by her husband, John Harrison Peters; her son, John Curtis Peters; and 11 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Faye Peters; one grandson, Curtis Ray Peters; one great-grandson, Jonathon Peters; and many nieces and nephews who she loved to visit. She had a good life, a clear mind, and a strong faith. She is home safe with the Lord today. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Cantlon Otterness Funeral Chapel with Cheryl Eversole officiating. Interment will be in the Springfield National Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2017 under the direction of the Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home.
