Billy Gene Burtin

Billy Gene Burtin, age 82, of Long Lane MO, departed from us on July 23, 2026 in his home. Bill was born in Long Lane to Bertrum Owen and Faye Irene (Potter) Burtin on September 23, 1943. He attended school at Cedar Ridge and Long Lane Elementary and graduated from Buffalo High School. Bill attended Cedar Ridge Church where he was saved and baptized in 1960. During High School he met Myrna Talbott, they were wed on February 8, 1962. They were blessed with three children Pud, Buck and Boob, also known as the Bad News Ranch ranch hands. Bill worked on various farms before stating a Carrer as a Bridge Carpenter, retiring after 50+ years. Durning retirement he worked on ranches, worked with horses, hunted and fished while being the proprietor of the Bad News Ranch. This broad shouldered, rough and tough cowboy, was many things to many people, but always remained his momma's baby boy. Bill was devoted to the Long Lane Lions Club, making sure it was always mowed and looking good for all events. He lived for the Youth Rodeo; he couldn't wait for September to come around so he could help with and be a part of making all those kids cowboys and cowgirls for the day. Bill crossed paths with many people over the years through his many hobbies, and community events. He played softball, showed horses, rodeoed, coon hunted, fished, deer hunted and many other things. He loved teaching and sharing these things with his kids, grand kids, and great grand kids. Bill’s legacy is left with his loving wife Myrna of the home; his children, Jeanna & husband Wade Osborn, Buck & wife Dana Burtin, and Billy Joe & wife Stashi Burtin; grand kids, Michael (Alyssa), Kayla (Adam), Robby (Ellie), Alicia, Macy Jo (Corey), Olivia, Bristol; step grandkids Hannah (Nate) and Carl; great-grand kids Brylin, Lincoln, Hayden, Lydia, Beckett, Abigale, Bella, Cohen, Spencer, Walker; step great-grand kids Lane, Makinley, Piper, Lincoln, Weston, Palmer and Costa; and one sister, Mary Lou Marley of Augusta KS. He also leaves many friends, family and adopted family members. Those gone before Bill are his parents, Bert and Faye; one brother, Bertrum Edward (Sonny) Burtin; father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Sylvia Talbott; brother-in-law, Leland; and sister-in-law, Ann. His words of wisdom and life lessons will be on our minds and in our hearts forever, "Do as I say not as I do" "Stand 9 ft tall and bullet proof" and "given the choice always hold the light" to name a few. He is and will be loved and missed by us all. P.S. "you go ahead, I got the gate" Love ... Myrn Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 in the Cedar Ridge Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. John Long and Pastor Shane Shockley officiating. Escorts will be Lynn Crouch, Jeff Potter, Clinton Eastburn, Connor Burtin, Kevin Pierce, and Michael Green. Honorary escorts will be Joe Adams, John Barnhart, Jim Parker, Larry Scurlock, Ralph Bennett, Jr. Matthews, and Tim Scurlock. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Cedar Ridge Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cedar Ridge Cemetery Fund or the Long Lane Lion's Club.
