Lawrence Davis Skinner

Services were Sunday, Nov. 15, in First Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Brad Duff and Bro. Dennis Skinner officiating. Music was by Chris and Kristie Horn who sang, “If You Knew” and “Consider the Lillies.” Burial with military honors was in Gardens of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. Memorials may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church. Escorts were Billy Dugan, Allen Canon, Gail Chastine, Dale Lane, Kenny McDaniel and Jimmy McCorkendale. Honorary escorts were Cecil Bailey, Junior Hogoboom, Bill Ray, James Weeks and Clifford White. Lawrence Davis (L.D.) Skinner was born Nov. 24, 1929, in Elkland, one of 21 children born to Charley and Nellie (Shembarger) Skinner. He died Nov. 12, 2009, at his home after a lingering illness. He was united in marriage with Carolyn Sue Caselman on Dec. 22, 1956, and to this union two daughters were born. He was saved by his Lord and Savior early in life and was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Buffalo until his death. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954, and was honorably discharged in 1959, due to a debilitating back injury. He held many odd jobs over the years as his health allowed. He was a longtime member of the D.A.V. He was a very giving and thoughtful person who was always willing to help others. Some of his favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, gardening and playing cards with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers: Halsey, William “Rob,” Pope, Ed, Vinia and Le Roy “Bub” Skinner; five sisters: Bertha Shembarger, Etta Vance, Pina Williams, Lillian Williams, and Clara Williams; and two siblings who died in infancy. Survivors include his wife, Sue, of the home; two daughters: Debra Sue Hatfield and fiancé Mike Snyder, Linn, and Donna Mae and husband, David Sharrah, Buffalo; two grandsons: Joshua and wife, Diane, and Abraham Hatfield; two great-grandsons: Tyler and Zachary Hatfield, all of Linn; six sisters: Marie Hill, Ruth Helen and husband, Clifford White, Wanda and husband, James Weeks, Florence and husband, Virgil Hogoboom, Patsy and husband, Cecil Bailey, and Phyllis and husband, Bill Ray; one brother, Darrell “Dingles” and wife, Lori Skinner; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends that will all greatly miss him
