Michael "Buford" William Houston

Michael “Buford” William Houston, age 60, of Buffalo, Missouri, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, at his home, surrounded by friends that loved him dearly. On his final days he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and we can all rest assured we will see him again. Our brother was born on September 29, 1964, in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1976, he started working at the Buffalo Sale Barn and because of that, he started creating dear friends (family) that still endure this day, and forever. He was born to Della Mae Fisher. From the time he was 16, he was raised by his only true Father in life, Roscoe Warner. Roscoe taught Buford the cattle business, oil business, how to grow an incredible garden, and how to judge the true character of a man. Roscoe molded our brother into the man he became, and the one we truly loved. He taught our brother the true importance of honesty, how to check that honesty from others, hard work and responsibility, as well as how to pour a good libation and make sure his “best friends, or family” were always OK... He had a knack for calling a few of us at all hours of the day, I mean night… to talk. Sometimes, he just needed someone he trusted to listen…. and out of our love for him we did. Buef loved attending concerts with his friends, hosting his friends for “VERY LONG” parties and just being surrounded by his friends. He loved playing cards, his favorite game was rummy, and he was very accomplished at it. However, he was also taught by Roscoe, to never, ever turn down a good poker game. If you sat down with him at the card table, you had better know the rules of every game played and what you were doing, or you wouldn’t last long. His passions were cattle, concerts, custom baling hay for others, and making sure his friends’ brothers and sisters knew he was always there. His smile was truly contagious. While he was taught to have an extremely “quick wit” by Roscoe, he also had a keen eye for those in need, and he always was there to help, NEVER boasting about anything he had done, or was going to do in the future. His heart truly was pure. His youngest brother David told me to make sure we knew his Brother Buef , NEVER did anything and I quote, “Half way”. We knew this to be true. Note: Not the exact words used. When his beloved son Dillon was born, you would have thought he won a MULTI Billion-dollar lottery. His smile never left for months, it literally never left. He often told those closest to him how much he loved Dillon and that he was so proud the Warner/Houston legacy was intact. On his final days he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and e can all rest assured we will see him again. Buford was preceded in death by his parents, Della Mae Fisher, and his father on this earth, Roscoe Warner. He is survived by his son, Dillon Houston and his beautiful wife Racheal, grandchildren Raeleigh, Alivia, Izzy, and Ryder, two brothers David Sweaney, his wife April and kids Joseph and Allison, Nick Houston as well as a host of friends, a small handful that was truly his family and were blessed to be there for over 4 decades, sharing his love and friendship. Yall know who you are. Everyone here today is blessed to have known our brother Michael Buford Houston. Services are scheduled for Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 3 pm at Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home with visitation from 2-3 pm. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, Missouri. Services are under the direction of Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home, Buffalo.
