Richard Icenhower

Richard Laverne Icenhower was born to Verne and Claudia Icenhower on September 20, 1944, and departed this life suddenly on October 21, 2025. He married Regina (Jeanie) Petterson on December 18, 1966, and to this union, three sons were born. After graduating from Fair Grove High school in 1962, Richard became a commercial painter, He remained in that profession until he joined the Army, where he served for six years. After his active duty, he went to work at Kraft for ten years. It was always his dream to be self-employed, so he purchased the old Cannefax Station, which became Ike’s Station. About three years later, he decided to build a convenience store and adjoining retail spaces. Regina managed the store for 25 years before it was sold to Cody’s, which later sold to Kum & Go. After moving to Fair Grove in 1971, Richard served on the volunteer fire department, was a member of the Lions Club, and served on the board for Senior Housing. He helped organize the Chamber of Commerce for Fair Grove and was part of a committee that went to Jefferson City to change a law on the books so Fair Grove could have a bank. He also helped pursue funding for the original sewer system. The old Ike’s Station was eventually torn down, and what is now a flea market and beauty shop was built for a transmission consulting firm. In 1986, Richard decided to but the MFA service station, which became Fair Grove Service Center, He bought a fuel truck and sold bulk gas and diesel to farmers in the area. After the service center closed in 2000, it became a commercial rental property. He also refereed basketball for several years and attended most of the Fair Grove High School boys and girls basketball games. Richard served on the Public Water Supply Board for 30 years – much of that time as President. He served three terms on the Fair Grove City Council. He spoke plainly and stood up for what he believed weas right. After closing the station in 2000, he ran parts and provided an “Uber service” for Ricky’s business and the family. Richard loved racing and was involved with different racing teams throughout the years. He enjoyed helping Ricky and Rodrick with their racing careers and later helping his grandson Trevor with his racing. He loved talking to people and never met a stranger. He dearly loved his family and was proud of each of them. He was always ready to give a big hug and say, “I love you.” Richard was saved as a teenager and was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Regina, of almost 50 years, sons Ryan and wife Robin, Ricky and wife Jerra, and Rodrick and wife Shelby; two grandsons, Trevor and Reed; five granddaughters, Ryah, Ali, Hadliee, Bryliee, and Adaliee, three step grandchildren Scotia. Brodie, and Fearson. He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca Eagleburger of Springfield and nephew Greg Eagleburger and wife Tonette of St. Joseph. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. It is the family’s request, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given to St. Jude’s. Funeral Service is scheduled for 12:00 pm on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the Fair Grove High School Gym with Brother Kenny Mallard and Don Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery with Brother Dennis Skinner officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm.
