Edith May Swigert, daughter of the late Sida H. and Julia Ann (Cole) Havice, was born on May 30, 1926 in Rexford, Kansas, and departed this life on July 15, 2018 at Hermitage Nursing and Rehab. At the time of her passing she was 92 years, 1 month, and 15 days of age. Edith was reared and attended school in London Smoke and Windyville, MO. After her schooling, she was united in marriage to George Iven Swigert. She loved being a homemaker and taking care of her children while they were growing. She enjoyed gardening, canning, making quilts, and working around the farm. After raising her children, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Chastain’s Nursing Home in Buffalo, MO. She was a member of the Dallas county Community Church and had donated the land for them to build the Church. She moved to Urbana, MO where she attended the Urbana First Baptist Church and made many new friends. In her later years she still enjoyed helping on the farm taking care of and watching the baby goats. Edith was preceded in death by her husband George; one son, Reece Swigert; two daughters, Julia Swigert and Dorothy Swigert; one brother, Junior Havice; one sister, Eva Ann Havice; and one great-granddaughter, Makala. She is survived by one son, George Allen Swigert; three daughters, Betty Atkinson, Alice Stoelzing, and Judy Swigert; one brother, Charlie Havice; one sister, Jeanetta Swigert; one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Havice; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves other family members and many friends who will all truly miss her. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Cantlon Otterness & Viets Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gary Urich officiating. Escorts will be Duane Swigert, James Swigert, Curtis Stoelzing, Terry Stoelzing, Tyler Burns, and Joe Rooffener Interment will be in the Dallas County Community Church Cemetery under the direction of the Cantlon Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
