Phillip Ronald Legan

February 10, 1933 - March 21, 2021

Phillip “Phil” Ronald Legan was born on February 10, 1933 in Buffalo, MO to Ireland and Isa Faye (Haney) Legan and passed away on March 21, 2021 at the age of 88 in the Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. A native to Buffalo, he left to pursue a career in the U.S. Navy where he raised his family and upon retirement eventually returned to Buffalo, his hometown. He was active in his community as a member of The Rangers and of the Lake Pomme de Terre Pommenaders Square Dancing Groups. He was a lifetime member of the Buffalo V.F.W. Post 4080Phil was the Commander of the local American Legion Post #19, and a member of the Buffalo Church of God Seventh Day. Phil enjoyed getting together with friends to play cards, dominos, see shows or solve the world’s problems. He was known for his quick wit and corny jokes. He was always fun and loved showing off his town. Phil was a kind and generous person, always willing to help out. He will be missed by all those who knew him. Phil was preceded in death by his parents Ireland and Isa Faye (Haney) Legan, his wife Helen (Taplin) Legan, two sons Thomas and Ronald Legan, and brother William Legan. He is survived by long-time companion Dixie Howser of Buffalo, Missouri, two sons James Legan and wife Roxanne of Sellersburg, Indiana, and Michael Legan and wife Darla of Wichita, Kansas, two daughters Cindy Harwell of Lemoore, California, and Cheri Weisel and husband Andy of Pinckney, Michigan, and a daughter-in-law Debra Legan of Magnolia, Texas. Fourteen Grandkids and fourteen great-grandkids. Graveside services will be 11:00 am Monday, March 29, 2021 in the Riverview Sweaney Cemetery Buffalo, Missouri under the direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo, Missouri Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday, March 28, 2021 in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home in Buffalo, Missouri In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to either the Buffalo American Legion or to the American Cancer Society.
