Roger "Terry" Nicholas

August 16, 1938 - April 3, 2021

Buffalo resident, Roger Terry Nicholas peacefully passed away at age 82 on the evening of April 3, 2021; his family was at his side. Terry was born to George M. and Rilda (Vance) Nicholas in rural Buffalo on August 16, 1938. Terry was the youngest of seven boys and four girls. His sisters were Jessie, Faye, Opal and Bonnie, and his brothers were George, Roy, Wayne, Junior, Dale and Dean. Terry first attended a one-room schoolhouse called White Palace; he graduated from Buffalo High School in 1956, worked at the Buffalo Square’s grocery store for a few years, then joined the army, serving in Texas and Germany. Upon returning to Missouri, he first served as a police officer in Independence. Later, while working as a machinist, he attended William Jewell in Liberty, Mo. then finished his bachelor’s degree in education at UMKC. After a machinist career, he taught in the Texas public school system. After retiring, Terry spent 20 years at his greatest joy, serving the seniors of Dallas County by delivering homebound meals to shut-ins (commonly called “meals on wheels”). Terry is survived by his wife of 21 years, Charlene; Terry and Charlene regularly attended Buffalo Freewill Baptist church, and they read each other biblical passages each and every day. Terry also leaves behind his four children Karrie, Karen, Kenneth and Kimberly. The community that Terry served is welcome to his visitation and service at Cantlon Otterness & Viets on Friday, April 9. Visitation will be from 12 - 2 pm. At 2 pm, Terry’s pastor, Brad Duff, will lead a memorial service.
