Dwight "Johnny" Miller

Dwight Ray (Johnny) Miller 97, of Buffalo, Mo. went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, October 4, 2014, at 12:45 a.m. at Colonial Springs Healthcare in Buffalo. He was born April 29, 1917 to Isaac and Alta Parrish Miller in Long Lane, Mo. Johnny graduated from Buffalo High School in 1935 and married Wilma Flanagan on December 24, 1937. They were married for 70 years. Together they built a large dairy farm and Johnny farmed a large acreage at Long Lane, Mo. He had a very strong work ethic and was an active member of Pisgah Baptist Church, Long Lane, and later transferred his membership to First Baptist Church, Buffalo. Recently, he was honored at his church for serving as a Deacon for over 70 years. Besides being a hardworking Farmer, he served as the Chairman of the Board of Producers Creamery, now Dairy Farmers of America, for two terms back in the 1950s. He was also a current active member of the Board of Directors of O'Bannon Banking Company. Gran, as he was lovingly called by his children and grandchildren, always had a smile and a sparkle in his blue eyes when he greeted you. He was a loving husband to both Wilma and his second wife, Lois, whom he married on April 22, 2012. He was a wonderful father and extra-special grandfather. He was the only person who could challenge or slightly discipline you and still smile. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Wilma; an infant daughter, Mary Lou; his only son, Larry Lee Miller in 1967; half-siblings Homer, Ruby and Lena Miller; Floyd, Oliver, Bill, Lizzie, and Flossie Rose. "To walk with Kings but to keep a common ground and touch," quoting from Kipling, "was a measure of a good man" and describes our Gran. He is survived by his second wife, Lois, of Buffalo; his daughter, Linda Miller Brown and her husband Jim of Buffalo; his daughter-in-law, Beth Marsh of Rogersville; and sister, Marjorie Young, Nevada Mo. Grandchildren: Larry Martin (Marty) Miller and wife Patty, Long Lane; Myndi Miller Downs and husband Danny, Ozark; Carrie Brown Hulsey and husband Kent, Buffalo; Christie Brown Anderson and husband Andy, Shawnee, KS; Debbie Marsh Williams and husband Marty and Grant Marsh of Rogersville. Great-grandchildren: Brandon and Blayne Downs, Ozark; Logan Miller and fiancée Shelby Bailey, Long Lane; Tim and Brittany Downs Brown, Kyle and Lyndi Miller Tiggemann, Russell and Calees Hulsey Sewell, and Kristopher Hulsey all of Springfield; Nathan Anderson, Shawnee, KS; Bailey and Savannah Williams, Grant and Whitney Clouse, Brooke and Shelby Marsh, Rogersville. Great-great-grandchildren: Mach and Mari Sewell and Ava Grace and Asher Brown, all of Springfield. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 7th at 1:00 pm. in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Benny Gard officiating. Music was by Danny Downs. Pallbearers were; Brandon Downs, Blayne Downs, Logan Miller, Nathan Anderson, Kristopher Hulsey, Bailey Williams, Tim Brown, Kyle Tiggemannn, and Russell Sewell. Honorary Pallbearers were; Dale Myler, Ron Myler, Bob Myler, John Dull, Lowell Kahler, Bob Lyon, Dwayne Falk, Bill Rouse, and John Ragland. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery under direction of the Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
