Joyce Florence Gargus

Joyce Florence Schneider entered this world on October 9th, 1934 in Kearney, NJ. She was the first born daughter of Andrew Paul Schneider and Florence May Schneider. She grew up in Woodbridge, NJ where she excelled in school. Her favorite subject was history. She had a lifelong passion for music and reading. Upon graduation, she entered the Englewood School of Nursing and worked at Perth Amboy Hospital as an RN. It was during this time that she met a soldier named Clyde Gargus. Clyde and Joyce married on February 25, 1956 and enjoyed 61 years of marriage. To this union were born three daughters, Cheryl, Lynda and Ellen. The family moved to Missouri in 1971, which is Clyde’s home state. Joyce worked in the area of public health in both Dallas and Laclede County health departments for many years. She was loved and respected by her co-workers and friends. These friendships lasted throughout her life. Joyce loved the Lord and especially loved worshipping through music. She sang in church choirs and as a soloist during special occasions. She had a beautiful voice that she used to express her heart and the message behind the songs as she touched those who heard. She filled her family’s lives with music as well. She departed this world on October 26th at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Carol Ann Suha, an infant sister, Nancy, and one great granddaughter, Mila Blake Clark. Joyce is survived by her loving husband Clyde O’Dell Gargus, three daughters, Cheryl Majocchi and her husband Richard, Lynda Clark and her husband Robert and Ellen Gargus. She is also survived by her three grandchildren Travis, Matthew, Brittney and eight great grandchildren, Noah, Spencer, Abby, Raven, Lily, Drake, Milo and Cohen. These children know that their Nana loved them deeply. Her forever prayer was “…and Lord, please watch over and protect the children.” Joyce will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Memorial service to be held on October 29th at 2pm at the 1st Christian Church of Lebanon on 500 South Madison. Donations can be given to the church in support of the Shepard’s Backpack Program which helps feed children in the community. Cremation rites are being accorded by the Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo
