Marie Catharine Smith

“Marie Catharine Smith, 82, passed away on December 20, 2016, at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar Missouri, after a brief illness.” Marie was born January 12th, 1934, in Cloverdale Missouri, the 3rd daughter Francis Aaron and Iva Merle (Rogers) Smith. Marie lived with and took care of her parents through the end of their lives. She greatly enjoyed the company of her family and friends. Marie also enjoyed many pursuits in life, as she loved to work picture puzzles, collect stamps, read voraciously, watch westerns, listen to gospel music, discuss family genealogy, and collect porcelain figurines. She also enjoyed painting and drawing; writing; and doing embroidery and other intricate works with fabrics when she was younger and her health permitted. “ “Marie enjoyed the outdoors and nature. She loved to watch the wildlife at her home place, and the beauty that God created in the plants, trees, and animals that surrounded her. She also greatly enjoyed the many pet dogs and cats she had throughout her life and gave them many unique names.” “Marie was steadfast in her faith. She loved the Christian Church, and her church family. Throughout her life she used prayer to strengthen those around her that were in need. She took a true interest in people, and keep them close to her in her heart and in her prayers. She was a true Christian soldier who fought the good fight, kept the faith, and now reaps the reward given to all those who believe.” "Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Retha Alice (Smith) Stockton; and 2 brothers-in-law. She leaves one sister, Letha Frances (Smith) Maxwell; two nephews, Garland Stockton and Joe F. Maxwell, and a number of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and many friends. She greatly appreciated all those that helped her in her later years; her wonderful friends Mary and Bob Mallard; and everyone else in her Church family” Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 23rd at 11 A.M. in the Montgomery-Viets Chapel with the Rev's. Tim Case and Jennifer Long officiating. Music Selections will be: "In the Garden," "Precious Lord," by Jennifer Long and "How Great Thou Art," by Tim Case. Pallbearers will be members of the First Christian Church. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. Visitation will be Friday from 10-11 A.M.
