Ricky Joe Henderson

Ricky Joe Henderson age 67 of Tunas was born January 27, 1950 at Urbana, Missouri. Son of Stanley (Bud) Henderson and Dolores Doyle. He died a at his home in Tunas on August 10, 2017. Rick was united in marriage to Phyllis Jean Blevins on June 8, 1979 and to this union two sons were born, Koi and Evan. Rick spent his professional career as a teacher and coach in Dallas County School system where he retired in 1999 after 27 years. In his spare time, and into his retirement he worked on the family farm near Tunas. He and wife Phyllis milked cows for several years before eventually converting over to a beef cattle operation. He loved working on the farm with his family and he spent most of his time there. Rick also loved the St. Louis Cardinals. He rarely missed watching a game on tv and would talk baseball with anyone who shared his love for the team. He accepted Christ as a young boy while attending First Baptist Church of Buffalo. He was a prominent member of the Cherry Grove Baptist Church where he occasionally taught Sunday school and bible study lessons. The role Rick enjoyed most was being a grandpa. His three grandaughters (Chayla, Kimber, and Presley) were the light of his life and he spent every moment he could with them. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bob and Abbie Henderson, Alva and Ruby Doyle, Father, Stanley (Bud) Henderson. He is survived by his Wife: Phyllis, Sons: Koi and wife (Juanita), and Evan and wife (Chasity). Granddaugters: Chayla, Kimber, and Presley. Mother: Dolores Henderson, brother, Danny and wife (Heather), sisters: Deanna Kirk and husband (Terry), Judy Leach and husband (Ed). in addition to those named many nieces, nephews, church family and many friends Funeral Service was held 10:00 a.m. Monday August 14, 2017 in the Cherry Grove Church with Pastor Loren Dryer and Kenny McDaniel Officiating. Pallbearers were Koi Henderson, Evan Henderson, Danny Henderson, David Blevins, Terry Kirk and Colson Kirk. Honorary Pallbearers were Kenny McDaniel, Kenny Hicks, Vernon Doyle, Jerry Berry, Aaron Taylor, and Gerald Mayberry. Music was recorded selections: Vince Gill "Go Rest High On That Mountain", The Inspirations "If You Only Knew", and Merle Haggard "One Day At A Time". Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of the Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. Memorials may be made to either the Hopewell Cemetery or the Cherry Grove Church.
