Services were 3 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Cedar Ridge Church with the Rev. Robert Long, a lifelong friend and neighbor, officiating. Music was “Knowing You’ll Be There” and “Go Rest High on That Mountain.” Burial was in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, under the direction of Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home. Escorts were her grandson Craig Newkirk, Kevin Pierce, “Buck” Burtin, Kurt Talbott, Billy Joe “Boob” Burtin and Jared Newkirk. Honorary escorts were Nick Haworth, Kris Talbott, Mitchell Newkirk and Tony Haworth. Sylvia Georgia Lee January Talbott, 91, was born Feb. 23, 1920, at Shamrock, Okla., the daughter of Robert Lee and Minnie Mae (Potter) January. She died May 3, 2011, at Buffalo Prairie Care Center, Buffalo. She was reared around the Calcord, Okla., area until moving to Rolla, Kan., when she was a young teen. She met the love of her life, Clarence Talbott, and they were married April 2, 1939, at Guymon, Okla. They later made their home in Elkhart, Kan. She enjoyed being a Stanley dealer, Artex Paint dealer and a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed doing activities with her family such as weekend trips and camping, She and her husband made several OATS trips throughout the United States. They moved to Missouri in 1958, and spent most of the remaining years there. She was a member of Cedar Ridge Free Will Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school and was a song leader for several years. She was a good friend and neighbor to those she met. She loved having the grandchildren visit, teaching them how to cook, sew, paint, quilt and play many different games. One of her favorite holidays was Easter, having her family home to celebrate with her. She loved to go to family reunions and get-togethers. She moved to Pine Lodge Residential Care Center in Buffalo in 2009. She met and made many friends with many of the residents and workers. She loved helping the ladies, playing bingo, working with yarn items and crafts. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence, in 2009; her daughter, Anita Louise; four brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include her children: Betty Newkirk, Myrna and husband, Bill Burtin, Dan and wife, Sharon Talbott, Patricia Seidel, and Pamela and husband, Steve Haworth; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
