Vida Gann

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. The Rev. Dennis Skinner officiated. Recorded music selections played were “Precious Memories” and “Where We’ll Never Grow Old.” Burial was in Thorpe Cemetery. Escorts were Justin Slack, Darren Cheek, Tommy Lowder, Timmy Lowder, Shelby Cox and Kyle Vest. Vida Gann, 98, was born March 20, 1914, at Seymour, the daughter of George and Mary Hyder. She died July 13, 2012, at Colonial Springs Healthcare Center, Buffalo. She was saved as a young girl at a revival meeting, was baptized and joined Thorpe Baptist Church. She worked hard on the farm and milked cows for over 40 years. After her husband died, she moved to Buffalo where she worked at Key Industries for a while. She worked at Bison Inn Cafe and worked for many of the business people in Buffalo, cleaning houses, baby-sitting and ironing or anything else to help them out. Her favorite work was sewing, making crafts and many beautiful quilts, which she gave to her children and grandchildren. Every Sunday morning she made fried chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy for the family until she was 94 years old. She never missed a Sunday whether anyone came or not. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 41 years, Orville; two sons: Erlin Gene Gann and Noel Jay Gann; one daughter, Juanita Lowder; one grandson and his wife, Terry and Alma Lowder; one great-grandson, Eric Lowder; one great-granddaughter, Bailey Cox; one son-in-law, Glen Lowder; seven sisters: Freda Hyder, Grace Davis, Lillie Jones, Laura Rost, Alberta Hurst, Vila Jacobson and Ruth George; and four brothers: Jake, Thorton, George and Granville Hyder. Survivors include three daughters: Valeta Gann, Anita and husband, Gary Stewart, and Arletta and husband, Darrell Weeks, all of Buffalo; one son, Lowell Dean and wife, Fedelina Gann, Springfield; a sister, Ida McCormick, Marshfield; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.
